Chris Royal Pushed Through Heartbreaking Loss On ‘The Voice UK’

Before his Blind Audition on The Voice UK, Chris spoke about how he is a family man. It was a difficult decision for him to move to London from Manchester to focus on music and it was proving to be quite the challenge to find work. He hoped that the show would be his big break.

Chris put on a very soulful performance that truly impressed all of the coaches during his Blind Audition. His vocals were smooth and perfect throughout the entire song. Finally, once he hit a super high note, the coaches realized that they had a star right in front of them. Coaches Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue and Ricky Wilson all turned their chairs at the same time.

“I will not give up until you’ve won this” Ricky told Chris after his performance. Both Kylie and Tom tried to persuade Chris to join their teams but they were no match for Ricky. The crowd began chanting “Ricky” right before Chris chose to be on Team Ricky. Right before The Battle Rounds, Ricky’s father sadly passed away.

“I’ve not spoken about it before now, because I didn’t want it to be seen as part of my story. It was a huge shock, but going into those battle rounds it was so hard because naturally, my mind was thinking about something else. But I knew I was doing it for him” he said in an interview. He pushed through the heartbreak and performed “Rolling in the Deep” against Jamie Lovatt.

Where Is He Now?

After competing on The Voice UK, Chris continued on to pursue a career in music. In 2018 he performed at BBC Sound Of 2018. He has also performed at sold-out shows and gigs all over London.

Chris also sang background vocals for artist Mabel in 2019.

Chris just uploaded a cover of “First Began” by Pj Morton on his YouTube channel so definitely go check that out if you love his soulful voice. He is one of the many artists looking forward to getting back on the stage after the coronavirus pandemic has postponed most live music events.
