Former The Voice UK winner Kevin Simm didn’t beat around the bush when sharing his thoughts on the singing competition. The 2016 champion called competing on the show a “waste of f*cking time” in a recent interview.
The Voice UK Winner Calls Show a ‘Waste of Time’
Kevin Simm is a former member of the band Liberty X. In 2016, he auditioned for The Voice UK with a cover of “Chandelier” by Sia. He turned all four coaches’ chairs with his performance, ultimately choosing to join Paloma Faith’s team. Simm made it all the way to the Finals, where he was crowned the winner.
Despite his success on the show, Simm doesn’t recommend that other singers follow in his footsteps. In a recent interview with Closer magazine, Simm shared, “As much as my time on The Voice was brilliant, I do think that show is just a waste of f*cking time.”
“It never does anything for the winners, why is it still on television?” Simm wondered about the competition series, which is airing its Series 14 finale in the UK this weekend.
After his time on The Voice, Kevin Simm received a recording contract with Universal Music Group, and his single “All You Good Friends” reached No. 24 on the UK charts. He also released an album called Recover. Simm later joined the band Wet Wet Wet, and is gearing up to reunite with Liberty X on tour next year.
The coaching lineup for Series 15 of The Voice UK is shaping up to look a bit different, as longtime coach Tom Jones is departing the show. The 86-year-old music legend claims he was fired by ITV and “did not want to leave” the show.
Veteran coach will.i.am will return for the new season. Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland, who made her debut in the current season, will also be back. They’ll be joined by Girls Aloud star Cheryl (who previously judged on The X Factor) and rapper Aitch. The new season is expected to air next year on ITV.
