The winners of the Critics Choice Real TV Awards have finally been announced! RuPaul’s Drag Race was a favorite to win heading into the night with five nominations. The show tied with The Great British Baking Show for Best Competition Series. RuPaul’s Drag Race also brought home the win for Best Ensemble Cast in an unscripted series.
‘RuPaul’s Drag Race‘ and ‘The Voice’ Own the Night at the Critics Choice Real TV Awards
Host and producer RuPaul put out a virtual message to accept the Best Competition Series award looking extra glamourous. She thanked the queens of season 13 for “opening the hearts and minds of millions.” Season 13 of RuPaul’s Drag Race was filmed during the pandemic, but made us feel like we were at a live drag show all season long.
Tied votes were the theme for the night. The Voice and The Masked Singer both won the award for Best Competition Series: Talent/Variety. The Voice coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Blake Shelton all appeared virtually to accept the award. Nick Jonas was absent from the appearance after coaching Season 20.
“Despite the fact that Blake won, we feel like the season was pretty successful,” Legend joked.
Clarkson suggested that they cut Shelton out of the shot. The duo has always been on-screen rivals each season that they’ve coached together. If this is any indicator of what the next season of The Voice is going to be like, expect rivalries galore. Ariana Grande is the fourth coach for the upcoming 21st season of the show and the gloves are bound to come out.
Legend, whose wife Chrissy Teigen has been the subject of ongoing social media drama, also tweeted about the big win.
“Thank you @CriticsChoice! We feel so fortunate to make this show with such amazing, talented artists and a wonderful team behind the scenes!” he wrote on Twitter.
