The Voice returned to NBC to finally answer the question we’ve been dying to know. Last episode left us on a cliff, dying to know which team Mara Justine decided to join. If you missed it, Team Legend’s final Knockout featured Caleb Strasser, Kaylee Shimizu, and Mara Justine. Kaylee was the winner of the competition, and both Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan turned for Mara.

The first portion of this episode answered our dying question. Now, we know that viral singer Mara will go into the Playoffs as part of Team Niall.

Dan + Shay Fill in For Niall Horan

Aside from the typical rehearsal footage, the show acknowledged Horan’s absence. Since he was unable to attend rehearsals, he called in a friend to take his place. During practice, Dan + Shay stepped in for Horan. This was perfect experience for them, since they’re set to coach together on The Voice Season 25.

This Knockout features Azan, Olivia Minogue, and Nini Iris. They sang, respectively, “Caught Up in The Rapture” by Anika Baker, “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence, “Karma Police” by Radiohead.

It was quite intriguing to watch Horan’s facial expressions during these performances, since he clearly was surprised over their song choices. After they were over, Horan got to pick the winner of the Knockout. He picked Nini as the winner, she will be going on to the Playoffs.

Team Gwen Stuns in Surprising Knockout Round

The second Knockout of the night featured Team Gwen members Tanner Massey, Chechi Sarai and Rudi. They sang, respectively,  “In My Blood” by Shawn Mendes, “Never Gonna Say Goodbye” by Jackson 5, and “Smoking Out The Window” by Silk Sonic.

After the performances, concluded, other coaches commented on Tanner’s performance emotion, Chechi’s impressive runs, and Rudi’s questionable, yet insanely fun song choice. Stefani, of course, began by complimenting each of her singers. After pondering the decision, Stefani explained that she had a plan, before announcing Tanner as the overall winner.

Luckily, Rudi’s time on the show isn’t over yet. Not only did Stefani attempt to Save her artist, both McEntire and Legend hit their steals for the singer. After hearing what each coach had to say, Rudi decided to stay on Team Gwen.
