Upcoming The Voice coaches are set to show up on tonight’s episode of Season 24. For Season 25, the pop country duo Dan + Shay will be taking the coaching panel. The award-winning musicians are set to settle into their double red chair as the first ever coaching duo of the series.
Since NBC announced the groundbreaking news, numerous The Voice fans have become curious about Dan + Shay. Here’s everything we know about the musical duo.
Dan, Shay First Met at a Nashville House Party
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney first bumped into each other at a house party in Nashville, Tennessee in December 2012. Immediately finding musical chemistry as a duo, they began working together in Dan Smyers’ living room.
Prior to meeting each other, the two had already kicked off their vocal careers. Smyers was a part of the band Bonaventure and Transition on Floodgate Records. Mooney, meanwhile, was exploring music as a solo artist from Nappy Boy Entertainment.
They began their musical journey in 2013, signing into Warner/Chappell Music. They then released their debut single “19 You + Me” to country radio, receiving positive feedback. Then, the song rose to No. 11 on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart.
In 2014, they also had their Grand Ole Opry debut and received a nomination for Academy of Country Music Awards Vocal Duo of the Year. Indeed, Dan + Shay made notable achievements that time, but that was just the beginning.
They’ve Made Their Mark in the Country Music Arena
The following year became even more eventful, with Dan + Shay releasing the debut album Where It All Began. By this time, the vocal duo was already carving their name in the industry, getting more visible on Country radio. They were also able to appear and perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
After reaching immense success in music releases and touring, their following songs kept ranking in the charts. They launched their sophomore album, Obsessed, having three of its tracks placed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Charts.
Years after, Dan + Shay dropped “Tequila” which paved the way to their Grammy Award for the Best Country Duo/Group Performance. They went on to win this award three times consecutively, becoming the firsts duo to do so after the since the category’s inception. In 2019, they collaborated with Justin Bieber for the smash hit “10,000 Hours.”
Dan + Shay continues to grow their music career, even in 2023. Their most recent release is an album named Bigger Houses.
Dan + Shay Gear Up for The Voice Season 25
Currently, Dan + Shay are gearing up for their The Voice coaching debut for the show’s Season 25. Truly, while they are practically new in the competition, there’s no reason for other coaches to take them easy.
It’s fair to think that Dan + Shay will be a force to be reckoned with given their double nature. Besides that, they pretty much know how the game works because they’ve been on The Voice before. The two served as Battle Advisors back in Season 20 in assistance of former coach Blake Shelton.
During that season, Team Blake singer Cam Anthony walked away as the grand winner. That makes Dan + Shay’s expertise reasonably contributory to Anthony’s victory.
With their proven experience in the industry and the series itself, it pays to look forward to Dan + Shay’s presence in The Voice. Catch the musical duo on the show’s 25th season on NBC.
