The Voice Mega Mentor Reba McEntire Talks About the Coaches
Reba McEntire and The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson are far from strangers. McEntire was formerly married to Narvel Blackstock, who is the father of Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. Although there were rumors of tension between McEntire and Clarkson, the country legend had nothing but nice things to say.
“I am so proud of Kelly. She has grown as an artist, as a teacher,” McEntire said, before Clarkson pointed out that they met back in 2002. “She was a baby. She’s just matured into this wonderful woman that I am just so proud of and I love with all my heart.”
McEntire is also friends with longtime coach Blake Shelton. As she said in the new video, “Blake and I have been friends for a long time, and every time we get back together, it’s just like we haven’t been apart.”
Shelton pointed out that McEntire was his first mentor on the show, and now she’s his last. He joked, “You brought me into this, and now you’re taking me out.”

McEntire Said She Wants to Be ‘Touched’ by the Performances
“Always so much fun to be back on The Voice again,” McEntire said toward the end of the video. “It’s always a lot of fun to give advice, because I study people when they perform, and I want to be touched when they’re singing to me.”
McEntire can be seen telling Team Blake artist Kylee Dayne during rehearsals that she “really touched my heart.” She added, “That’s the biggest thing, is to capture somebody in the audience, to where they’re sobbing or laughing. Get some emotion out of them, and you did it for me.”
You can watch McEntire mentor this season’s artists when The Voice Season 23 returns for the Knockouts on Monday night at 8/7c on NBC.
