‘The Voice Kids UK’ Wraps Quick Season with a Win for New Coach Mel C.

The Voice Kids UK finished up 2021 with a blink-and-you’ll miss-it fifth season on ITV that only lasted three episodes. New coach Mel C, aka Sporty Spice, earned her first win on the show with 14-year-old singer Torrin Cuthill. The season was pre-filmed early last year.
Torrin Cuthill Wins ‘The Voice Kids UK’ Season 5
The first two episodes of the season featured Blind Auditions, followed by the finale. Torrin performed “Days Like This” by Van Morrison in her audition, turning only Mel C’s chair. She made it to the Finals along with Leo (Team Will.i.am), Savannah Lily Boak (Team Pixie Lott), and Aishling Mae Bontoyan (Team Danny Jones).
In the Battle round, Torrin beat her fellow Team Mel contestants on a performance of the song “Proud Mary,” famously sung by Tina Turner. In the finale, which aired December 29, she delivered a winning performance of “Auld Lang Syne,” appropriate for New Year’s.
Mel C replaced Paloma Faith on the coaching panel after Faith left due to her recent pregnancy. Filming for the fifth season started all the way back in February of 2021. Last season, Justine Afante won the show at age 13 on Pixie Lott’s team.

Mel C Reacts to Her First Season as a Coach on the Show
Mel C wrote on Instagram that her first season as a coach on The Voice Kids was “an incredible experience.” She added, “I’ve been utterly inspired not only by the talent of the young people I was lucky enough to work with but by their wonderful attitude towards life and learning, none more so than our winner @torrinsings.”
In a press release, Mel C described Torrin as “an instant chair turner,” adding that she wasn’t sure if the singer would earn the audience’s vote to become the winner. The coach shared of Torrin’s future, “I do believe she could become one of the greats of our time. She’s got that potential. She’s so talented. She just has that ability to connect with people and to touch your soul.”
Torrin also reacted to her win on Instagram, writing, “I have been up against such talented kids and it’s a blessing to have met them all.”
