The Voice Kids is returning to U.K. television this December, with Mel C of the Spice Girls joining the panel of coaches. The spin-off show, featuring singers between the ages of 7 and 14 years old, is entering its fifth season this year.
‘The Voice Kids’ Returning with Coaches Mel C, Will.i.am
According to Radio Times, ITV will air The Voice Kids this December as a “Christmas television event not to be missed.” Emma Willis returns as the host of the show, with three of the four previous coaches returning to the big red chairs.
Danny Jones and last season’s winning coach Pixie Lott are returning, along with Will.i.am, who’s also a coach on the regular version of The Voice UK, as well as FOX’s Alter Ego. With Paloma Faith leaving the show due to her recent pregnancy, Mel C (aka Sporty Spice) is filling in this season.
Mel recently competed on Season 30 of Dancing with the Stars, paired with pro dancer Gleb Savchenko. They made it to the fifth week of the competition before they were eliminated, placing eleventh.
The singer wrote on Twitter earlier this year that she’s a longtime fan of The Voice, so she’s “super excited” to be joining the kids’ version. She added, “I can’t wait to get in one of those big red chairs and Spice things up!”

When Does the New Season Start?
As Radio Times reports, The Voice Kids usually airs during the summer, but this year it will hit television screens during the holiday season. ITV apparently hasn’t confirmed a specific premiere date yet, beyond saying it will air in December 2021.
Filming of the Blind Auditions for this season started back in February. At the time, Mel C shared a photo on Instagram in which she poses in her spinning chair on set. “So excited to start filming on @thevoicekidsuk,” she wrote. “Here I am warming up the seat in rehearsals. I can’t wait to start!” She also teased that her team will be called Team Sporty.
Last season, Justine Afante won the show at age 13. This marked coach Pixie Lott’s third time winning the show. Will one of the other coaches steal her crown this season? We’ll find out soon.
