If you asked me three weeks ago who was going to win American Idol, I would have said that Alejandro Aranda was unstoppable. But now Laine Hardy has started to gain on him and, dare I say it, might soon surpass him. We discuss this and much more on this week’s Talent Recap Show.
Look, before you start sending us hate comments, we love Alejandro. There is no doubt that he is one of the most unique and wonderful artists that have ever been on American Idol. However, he has a very distinctive style and it doesn’t always adapt well to different situations. If Alejandro were out in the world releasing records, I would say that sticking to his lane makes sense. We love him on The Talent Recap Show. The problem with going on a show like American Idol is that the show makes you do different things in different rounds and it isn’t always going to fit your style.
Laine, on the other hand, has been able to adapt and sing everything from Queen to Johnny Cash to a song by a talking fox from a Disney movie. It’s not enough to sing well to win these shows. It also matters how well you play the game. If you just depend on talent, you will only get so far. Is that unfair? Maybe. But that’s the world we live in.
