The Other Direction Gives Simon Cowell Deja Vu on the ‘AGT’ Stage
Reading Time: 3 minutes
You’ve heard of One Direction, the boy band phenomenon that swept the world after stealing the spotlight on The X Factor UK. Now make way for The Other Direction. The self-described “World’s Gayest Boyband” auditioned for America’s Got Talent just in time for pride month.
One Direction shockingly came in third place on The X Factor UK 11 years ago. Simon Cowell surely experienced some deja vu when the boys of The Other Direction graced the AGT stage. This fabulous version of one of the most successful boy bands of all time will auditioned during Tuesday’s episode. If you want a little spice in your life, I would definitely check them out.
Through the years, talent shows have prompted the success of a number of singing groups aside from One Direction. Fifth Harmony and Little Mix are only a couple of examples, but it is no surprise that all of these hit singing sensations were, in fact, discovered by the one and only Cowell.
That being said, it’s safe to say that The Other Direction has some big shoes to fill. In the right hands, they have the potential to pave the way for others in the industry by thriving as an all-gay band.
Meet The Guys of The Other Direction
So, let’s meet the guys, shall we? First up, we have Norm, the 21-year old self described “Jewish cowboy unicorn” from Whitefish, Mont. Next up, there’s Greg from San Francisco, an astrology enthusiast who calls himself “The Mama Bear of the group”.
Devynn is a 21-year old “Fashionista-Diva” from New York City while Jason is the boy from Miami who brings the party to life. Last, but not least, is 21-year old Alex, the self proclaimed “jock” of the group.
During Tuesday’s episode, the group performed “Gurl Ur The Best” an original song co-written by Jim Territo. The performance impressed not only the audience, but Cowell as well. The judge praised The Other Direction for their efforts to stand out. Considering the fact that the boys had never before performed together on stage, I think their standing ovation was well deserved.
“We’re head over heels excited by how our TV debut went,” said Norm. “The single we performed ‘Gurl Ur The Best’ is on YouTube.”
Each unique personality represented in the group only adds to the overall positive, inclusive, and fun-loving vibe of this group. I predict that audiences will continue to respond extraordinarily well to the up-and-coming stars. Going forward in the competition, the boys will perform all original music. Most of the band members have already released some solo projects that they promote on social media.
The Other Direction said how excited they are to perform again for their fans. They are ready to see wherever their journey leads them. I for one am very excited to see how the boys rally together in the future on the AGT stage.
