‘The Masked Singer’ to Introduce Two Contestant Format on Vegas Night
Reading Time: 3 minutes
This season of The Masked Singer has already proven to be filled with exciting new twists and minor ounces of confusion. It wouldn’t be The Masked Singer if the show didn’t change up their format each season. It seems like multiple episodes this season will feature two celebrity contestants as opposed to four.
The Masked Singer Ditches Four Singer Format for Vegas Night Theme Night
FOX’s press website confirms that the second episode of the series is different than ever before. Instead of featuring four anonymous singers, fans can look forward to seeing two, Panther and Pi-Rat. Although this show is positioned to feature masked celebrities, it seems like they will take the back burner for the episode.
This upcoming episode of The Masked Singer strives to show off it’s theme, Vegas, with the help of former contestant Donny Osmond, as well as Blue Man Group. On top of the guests, fans can expect to see the unmasking of Hummingbird and performances by Pi-Rat and Panther. This episode differs from the last, since there will only be two new costumes.
Will This Format Stay For the Rest of The Season?
The Masked Singer has a popular cast on the rise for this season. The network has confirmed that hidden celebrities have a combined total of 32 Grammy Nominations, 16 Emmy Wins, 8 Gold Albums, 4 Golden Globe Nominations, 42 Books, 10 Teen Choice Awards and 5 Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It’s reported that there will be 22 new celebrities in total for season eight.
After seeing last weeks format, many began to wonder how long the season would last with three eliminations per episode. But, if episodes continue to follow this format, the season would complete with 10 episodes and 22 total celebrities. Although the numbers add up, it feels alarming that there would only be two hidden celebrities per episode.
This new format has previously been confirmed by the show’s Executive Producer Craig Plestis. Pletis explained that “if an episode features three celebrities, one would be eliminated right away.” This would leave the other two to compete in a “Battle Royale” until the losing celebrity has to unmask.
How Fans Really Feel About the Format Change
The Masked Singer fans have already taken their stance on whether they like or dislike the new format. Even though there are obvious pros with this format, including the opportunity for larger celebrities who don’t have several weeks, many fans have begun pointing out the cons on social media.
“I don’t mind it in theory, but it removed the biggest element of enjoyment for me which was the speculation of who the people are. “Don’t worry, you’ll find out in 20 minutes” doesn’t bring the same level excitement,” a fan wrote on Reddit.
Many believe that the format will lead to a less rewarding finale in the long run. If the celebrities are on the show for a short amount of time, the entire game is practically soiled.
