Former X Factor judge Britney Spears has reportedly checked herself into rehab following her arrest on suspicion of DUI last month. A representative recently confirmed the pop star’s decision to People.

Britney Spears Checks Into Rehab After DUI

In early March of this year, Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Ventura, California. She was reportedly released the next day. Her rep told People that it was an “unfortunate incident” which was “completely inexcusable.”

The rep confirmed that Spears has voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility. According to TMZ, people close to Spears had been urging her to seek treatment, with a source saying, “She realizes she hit rock bottom.”

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time,” the singer’s rep said in a statement. “Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”

Spears is scheduled to appear in court for her DUI case on May 4, and a source told TMZ that she “knows strategically this will look good in front of the judge” and is “taking it seriously.”

Spears Was ‘Incredibly Emotional’ Over Arrest

A source told Page Six last month that Britney Spears was “incredibly emotional” over her DUI arrest last month, feeling “ashamed and embarrassed” and “very sorry” for the situation.

“She doesn’t want to let anyone down, including her fans,” the source said of Spears’ regret over the incident. “The last thing she wants is to be judged publicly all over again.”

According to a 911 dispatch, before her arrest, Spears was seen driving “in and out of lanes” and “speeding.” She reportedly had her blood drawn at the hospital to determine her blood alcohol content before being booked at around 3 a.m. She was released three hours later.
