So You Think You Can Dance Alum Joshua Allen Passes Away at 36 Years Old
On October 1, TMZ broke the news of Allen’s passing. According to the outlet, a family member shared his passing, but declined to release how the dancer passed. Instead, they’ve asked for “privacy and prayers” at this time.
When the outlet talked to Allen’s longtime friend Emmanuel Hurd, he mentioned that he was shocked by his friend’s demise. While mourning, Hurd remembers Allen as a “very honest, real person” who would tell you his own flaws.
“He didn’t always do things the way that everybody thought he should,” Hurd said. “That’s why he was a winner.”
On Instagram, Hurd shared that Allen passed away on September 29, 2025. On behalf of his friend, he wrote “I can’t wrap my head around this…Josh…my brotha. There are no words. You were the life of the party. You were Batman. Champion. One of the realest people I ever met. Kept it a stack every time and would make it right if you fell short. A real King. This one hurts deep. I know you’re with Stephen now and that brings me comfort. I love you bro.”
Remembering Joshua Allen’s Time on So You Think You Can Dance
Allen rose to fame in 2008 when he won So You Think You Can Dance Season 4. People may remember Season 4, since Ellen Degeneres’ colleague and friend Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss placed in second.
After the dancer won So You Think You Can Dance, he revealed that he’s never had technical dance training as a kid. Instead, he would “try to take classes” during summer breaks. Apparently, after going through each portion of the audition process, he signed up for as many dance classes as he could to expand his knowledge.
He also shared that he’s interested in becoming a recording artist and choreograph in his own studio and at his own company. Allen even wanted to own a record label and be a producer.
In 2016, Allen made national headlines when he was charged with domestic violence in Los Angeles. He then got a year in jail plus probation in 2017, according to Deadline.
