Season 16 of AGT, and Simon Cowell’s involvement in the show, have been up in the air for a while now. But it looks like fans can expect to see Simon on their TV screens very soon.

Not only did AGT announce this year’s premiere date this week, but Simon is reportedly ready to start filming the show after recovering from last year’s electric bike accident.

Simon Cowell Returning To ‘AGT’

Earlier this week, the official America’s Got Talent Twitter account shared that Season 16 of the show will premiere Tuesday, June 1, 2021, on NBC. The show had previously announced that all four of last season’s judges would be back.

That means that Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara will join Simon Cowell at the judges’ table, with Terry Crews hosting once again. According to The Sun, the show is set to start filming at the end of the month.

“Simon can’t wait to get back to doing what he loves,” a source told the outlet. “He’s been focused on his return for months.”

Last August, Simon broke his back in several places after falling off an electric bike at his home in Malibu. He had to have a metal rod put into his back, and missed out on the AGT and BGT live shows while he recovered.

How Is Simon Doing After His Accident?

Simon Cowell recently talked to his ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour about recovering from his accident. He explained that he “nearly smashed my spine to pieces” and was close to not being able to walk.

Simon said his partner Lauren Silverman and their 7-year-old son Eric helped him during his recovery. “She was amazing, both her and Eric were like my support,” Simon said. “Couldn’t have got through it without them.”

Since BGT was put on hold until 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Simon’s return to AGT this summer is even bigger.

When the Season 15 finale aired last year, Simon tweeted, “Good luck to all the contestants and thank you all for tuning in. I wish I was there.” This time, he actually will be.
