Recently, I was on vacation with my family at Carolina Beach, North Carolina. On Friday nights, they host free concerts and fireworks, so we knew we couldn’t pass on the opportunity during our trip. On the schedule, was Halden Vang, a soul group. Little did I know, lead singer Jake HaldenVang was a member of Gwen Stefani’s team on The Voice.

Jake is a Charlotte, NC, native that went on season 17 of The Voice, he was apart of Team Gwen, and made it to the Top 20 before his elimination.

On his time on The Voice, Jake talked about how he and his father created a band named HaldenVang when he was only 13-years-old. This group is described as a blues-rock band, which isn’t a surprise since he auditioned for The Voice singing “Wish I Knew You” by rock band The Revivalists’.

Jake HaldenVang Rocks Boardwalk Concert

Naturally, my family was very excited to go to an outdoor concert, as anyone would be after this past year. Once we got to the boardwalk, we were pretty confused. The band on stage had three members and featured a ton of head banging. I’m talking traditional punk Warped Tour type of head banging. We were expecting a soul band, so we were caught off guard by this pop-punk vibe that HaldenVang was providing.

While watching their performance, we couldn’t help but comment on how talented the lead singer, Jake, was. His voice was extremely versatile in their performance. He was singing in a low register then switching to a higher one in different songs. Once we realized he had been on The Voice we knew weren’t the only ones who realized how talented HaldenVang is as a singer.

Although this concert wasn’t at all what we were expecting, we had a great time. The Carolina Beach audience was on their feet dancing for the majority of HaldenVang’s songs. Jake’s talent shined through in both his vocals and guitar playing. The other members of the band complimented the lead singer perfectly in their performance.

The next day, I looked the group up on social media to hear more of their music. That’s when I found out the lead singer was on one of our favorite shows. I immediately looked up his audition and my jaw dropped when Stefani told the singer that he has so much range and so many different personalities in his voice. I noticed the same thing in concert!

Since his time on The Voice, Jake’s Instagram has filled with many photos and videos of performances. Even though he didn’t win the competition, he has still gone on to perform with his band quite a lot. Although the group does not have their next concert date posted, they have mentioned future announcements.

In a Facebook post about the Carolina Beach performance, they mentioned that there are some other big announcements in their future. I couldn’t recommend this surprising concert enough!
