Peta Murgatroyd, Maksim Chmerkovskiy Reveal Their Newborn Son’s Name

Dancing with the Stars pros Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy welcomed their second child together earlier this week, and they’ve since shared the baby’s name. Their newborn son is named Rio John Chmerkovskiy.
Peta Murgatroyd, Maksim Chmerkovskiy Share Baby’s Name
On Wednesday, the couple posted a photo of their baby son on Instagram. He’s lying down with his eyes closed and a pacifier in his mouth, wearing a beige-colored outfit. Beside him is a wooden sign announcing his name.
The couple confirmed in the post’s caption that Rio was born on Sunday, June 18, which happened to have been Father’s Day. They made sure to mention that their 6-year-old son Shai is “already the best big brother,” adding, “Life is good.”
“We loved Rio, which we came upon at the last minute. It’s a perfect complement to our long surname!” Murgatroyd told People about their name choice. “We also wanted something easy to say with Shai.”
Meanwhile, the middle name John is a tribute to Murgatroyd’s late father, who passed away last year.

The Comments Are Full of Love
Plenty of the couple’s friends from DWTS took a moment to comment on the name announcement with their excitement. Cheryl Burke wrote, “OMG! Congratulations! Can’t wait to meet Baby Rio soon.”
Jenna Johnson commented, “You are so loved Rio!!! We’ve been waiting for you.” She and Chmerkovskiy’s brother Val welcomed their own son earlier this year named Rome. Other commenters loved the idea that the cousins both have names beginning with R.
Murgatroyd also took to her Instagram stories to share more photos and clips of Rio, calling him the “love of my life” and joking that Chmerkovskiy “can never say I didn’t get him the ultimate Father’s Day gift.” She also teased that she “cannot wait to share my birth story with you all.”
