‘DWTS’ Pro Peta Murgatroyd Mourns the Death of Her Father

Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd recently shared the sad news that her father had passed away. Murgatroyd shared a tribute to him on Instagram and has since posted an update as she grieves his loss.
Peta Murgatroyd Grieves Her Father’s Death
Murgatroyd took to Instagram last week to share that her father, Derek John Murgatroyd, had passed away at the age of 81. She shared a photo of the two of them sitting side by side on a boat, writing, “To The Greatest Dad, my teddy bear. This is the end of our ride earth side.”
“Oh how I wish we could take this boat trip again,” Murgatroyd continued. “In the next life we will. This glance to each other was perfectly captured, you were so content, at sea where you were always meant to be. I know though that you will continue to ride with me until I see you again.”
The dancer added that she hopes she made him proud, writing that she “will miss you until my days here are done.” She signed the post, “Forever Daddy’s Girl.” According to the post, Murgatroyd’s father died on December 29.

Murgatroyd Is Spending Time with Son Shai
On Monday, Murgatroyd posted a photo to Instagram showing her 5-year-old son Shai on the beach collecting shells in a jar. She wrote in the caption, “Collecting shells with my favorite boy this morning….soul is soothing…heart is grieving.”
Mugatroyd added that her father’s “biggest love was the sea.” She ended the caption by wishing her followers a happy new year. Her husband, former DWTS pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy, commented on the post, “Love you guys.”
In December, Murgatroyd shared that she had flown to her home country of Australia to be with her father, who was sick with pulmonary fibrosis. He had been diagnosed in May of last year, and Mugatroyd said he was “okay and stable” until he contracted Covid-19.
