NSYNC, Backstreet Boys Dominate Talent Shows and Our Hearts
Reading Time: 3 minutes
The Backstreet Boys and NSYNC just teamed up for an epic collaboration to benefit L.A. Pride and The Trevor Project. AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass made up “Back-SYNC.” They showed off their iconic dance moves that stole everyone’s hearts with hits like “Bye Bye Bye” and “I Want It That Way.” The real question is, who is the next boy band member that will end up on one of our favorite talent shows?
Backstreet Boys, NSYNC Have Taken Over ‘The Masked Singer’ and ‘Dancing With the Stars’
McLean, Carter, Fatone, and Bass have all fittingly appeared on Dancing with the Stars in the past. Being in a boy band already gave them advantages in each of their seasons because they already knew how to pick up choreography.
McLean competed on Season 29 of Dancing with the Stars with Cheryl Burke. He transported the audience back to 1999 dancing a Cha Cha to Backstreet Boys’ “Larger Than Life.” His bandmates appeared virtually on a screen behind him throughout the routine. It was the blast from the past that fans needed to get them through the COVID-19 pandemic. A common trend is for Dancing with the Stars contestants to later appear on The Masked Singer. Do not be surprised if McLean does end up on the show in the future.
Carter competed on Season 21 with Sharna Burgess and was named the runner-up of the season. Much like McLean, he performed a jazz routine to “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” They recreated the choreography from the music video for this epic performance. Carter then went on to compete as The Crocodile on Season 4 of The Masked Singer. The judges were able to pick up on all of his boyband clues throughout the competition and he landed in third place.
Boyband Members Have Historically Done Well on These Talent Shows
NSYNC’s Fatone was one of the frontrunners on Season 4 of Dancing with the Stars. He was named as the runner-up with his partner Kym Johnson. Fatone and Johnson returned to compete on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars in 2012. He was the second contestant eliminated. Fatone later went on to compete on the very first season of The Masked Singer as The Rabbit. He got a giant leg tattoo to commemorate his time on the show.
Bass joined Lacey Schwimmer on Season 7 of Dancing with the Stars. They finished in third place overall. However, Bass has spoken out about the judges expressing favoritism towards certain contestants. Because he was partnered with a pro that was new to the show, the judges labeled her as “the bad girl of the ballroom.”
Backstreet’s Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, and Kevin Richardson did not participate in the Bingo Under the Stars Pride event nor have they competed on either of the talent competition shows. But just because we haven’t seen them compete yet doesn’t mean that it will never happen. All of them have been name-dropped by The Masked Singer judges whenever a contestant gives off boyband vibes.
As for NSYNC, it is pretty far-fetched to think Justin Timberlake would ever compete on The Masked Singer. JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick could potentially end up on a talent show in the future. Chasez has been a popular guess for The Masked Singer judges and fans in the past.
