Niecy Nash Reveals Why She Calls Jessica Betts Her ‘Hersband’
Niecy and Ellen started off the interview talking about how her 21-year-old daughter Dia hilariously told her she wants to be the next ‘Bachelorette.’ “If you tell Ellen, somehow I know it’ll happen,” Dia told Niecy before her taping on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Ellen also congratulated Niecy for getting married in August 2020. “I broke the internet” she yelled with a smile. Niecy married Jessica Betts whom she refers to as her “hersband.” The pair were friends for about four and a half years before realizing they had feelings for each other. Their relationship was kept under wraps to the public up until announcing they were married.
“A lot of people say that, like, ‘Oh, you came out!’ and I say, ‘Well, from out of where?'” Niecy said about her marriage to a woman coming as a surprise to some people. “I wasn’t anywhere to come out of. I wasn’t living a sexually repressed life when I was married to men, I just loved them when I loved them. And now I love her.”
Her daughter made her watch a program that talked about identifying as different labels. “It was a thousand different things you could have called yourself,” Niecy said. “But when I got through watching it she was like ‘Well what are you,’ and I said ‘confused.'”
