Nick Cannon Returns to Scripted TV on Accused
Cannon’s episode of Accused — airing on Tuesday, October 22 — is titled “Marcus’ Story.” Cannon plays the title character, a tech entrepreneur who is put on trial over consequences of his facial recognition software.
“I’m a fan of the show. It’s great television. It makes you think and kind of keeps you on the edge of your seat,” Cannon told Us Weekly about the FOX series, which is currently in its second season. “And then everybody who is involved really just are A-list [actors].”
Cannon has moved away from acting in recent years to focus more on hosting, but he told the magazine that he was excited to “jump back into the dramatic space” with this new role, calling it “a departure from the big public persona that I’ve created over the years.”
“And everything I do when it comes to acting, I’ve always looked for that challenge,” Cannon added. “Something that I could just strip myself of what people naturally know me as. So getting to do that is a lot of fun.”

Why Did Cannon Choose to Take the Part?
Cannon shared that he wants to “always be challenged” as an actor, sharing of his latest role, “The great thing about the character of Marcus is he gets to experience every single emotion in an hour.”
“He’s elated, he’s cheering, he’s laughing, he’s crying, he’s sad and he’s depressed,” Cannon said of his character. “There are so many things that you get to experience. The fact that I got an opportunity to do all of that in one setting, I was totally up for the challenge.”
Cannon said his character is “completely different from me,” adding that he hopes the episode sends a message to viewers about “allowing oneself to be self-reflective.”
Can we expect more scripted roles from Cannon in the near future? The star shared, “I just love acting and I think you’ll definitely see me more in this space — specifically in drama.”
