Netflix has officially entered the reality competition show game. Known as one of the biggest streaming networks, fans are officially beginning to wonder if this network’s original content will outperform their favorites. Should this be a cause for concern? Here’s what we think.

Netflix Joins The Reality Competition Show Genre with New Simon Cowell Show

In the past couple of years, Netflix has created their spot in the reality competition show genre. With their new series’ Building The Band, Drink Masters, and more. The streaming network even created a dating show called Sexy Beasts, where members of the dating show are transformed into characters similar to The Masked Singer

Now, the network is airing Simon Cowell’s newest competition reality series, Next Act. Within the show, Cowell is working to create the world’s next boy band, similar to One Direction. It’s expected for the limited series to premiere in December, 2025.

Cowell also has another show coming to television soon. This one, differing from Next Act, is set to air on ABC. The new X Factor-type series Who’s in The Band features Cowell, Mel B, Joe Jonas, and Savan Kotecha. According to reports, fans can expect this series to play out similarly to The X Factor in competition rounds.

Should Networks Be Concerned With Netflix Reality Competition Shows?

When looking at reality competition series being created, it’s normal for people to be nervous regarding their favorite shows. Many may think it’s a bad thing for streaming networks to create their own series, but in reality, it’s actually better. When streaming networks, especially one as popular as Netflix or Hulu, it brings more people to the genre.

More people flocking to the genre will lead to many new people looking up the classics, like American Idol, America’s Got Talent, The Voice, etc. This ultimately, as a result, would lead to your favorite shows being renewed longer.

There’s also the possibility of the shows changing over to a streaming service in the future. We’ve seen it in the past with Dancing With The Stars premiering Season 31 specifically on Disney+. Now, the show is live on both Disney+ and ABC.
