Howie Mandel, Mel B, Terry Crews, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell on 'America's Got Talent' Season 20

America’s Got Talent Season 21 officially premiered last week on NBC, and the ratings are in. According to a new report by The Wrap, ratings for the show were significantly improved compared to last year’s premiere.

America’s Got Talent Premieres to Strong Ratings

According to The Wrap, last week’s Season 21 premiere of America’s Got Talent received 6.2 million total viewers across both NBC and Peacock. This is reportedly based on live-plus-three-day Nielsen figures.

Viewership in the 18-49 demo in particular was apparently up 20 percent from last year’s season premiere. This was apparently the top-rated season premiere for AGT in three years for this particular demographic of viewers.

When considering just Peacock, this was reportedly the show’s No. 1 episode to date according to live-plus-three-day figures. AGT and Password, which premiered the same day, were apparently the No. 1 and No. 2 entertainment programs of the night on linear.

This Season Is Heavy on Golden Buzzers

Only two episodes of America’s Got Talent Season 21 have aired on NBC so far, yet five Golden Buzzers have already been awarded to deserving acts by the show’s judges and host. The premiere episode featured not one, not two, but three Golden Buzzer acts.

Then during this week’s show, two more acts received the honor. There was a bit of a conflict as Howie Mandel prepared to press the Golden Buzzer for singer Lara D, but Sofia Vergara got there first. Later, Mandel was successful in pressing it for magic group Hundred Fingers, even though host Terry Crews was on his way to do the honors.

What do you think of this season of AGT so far? Do you approve of the judges’ choice of Golden Buzzers? Let us know in the comments below, and tune in to a new episode Tuesday night on NBC — streaming the following day on Peacock.
