Former Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Mark Ballas and his wife BC Jean shared the heartbreaking news that they experienced a miscarriage last year. Jean is currently pregnant with the couple’s rainbow baby.

Mark Ballas, Wife BC Jean Share Miscarriage Story

On Thursday, the couple’s music act Alexander Jean posted a video for their new song “Rainbow.” It begins with the message, “We lost a baby last year.” They were getting ready to tell friends and family about their pregnancy when they “received the heavy news that our little one wasn’t going to make it.”

The couple described the experience as “a different kind of sadness,” adding that their song is “for anyone that has experienced loss in any form.” They added, “We hope it brings whoever listens some kind of peace & reminds you that a rainbow isn’t far behind.”

“I don’t know what to say / Life is pretty strange / Like rain in mid-July,” Jean sings on the new song. “It’s funny in a way / How quickly it can change / But a rainbow ain’t far behind / I’ll be all right / Healing just takes time, right?”

The couple received messages of love from Ballas’ former DWTS co-stars, including Jenna Johnson, who also shared her miscarriage experience earlier this year. She wrote, “This really hits home you guys ♥️ love you so much.”

The Couple Is Currently Expecting a Baby

In June, Ballas and Jean announced that they were expecting a baby together. They shared updates about their life, adding that they had “been making a tiny human” who was “coming soon.” They didn’t share a specific due date.

The happy news takes on new meaning now. Ballas’ mother Shirley, who is a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, called their new release “the most beautifully written song that I have ever heard.” She added, “This one hits my heart the most. I love you both so very much and I am so very sorry for your loss.”

Ballas won the last season of Dancing with the Stars with his celebrity partner Charli D’Amelio. He announced later that he would not be returning to the show.
