Little Mix Drama with Jesy Nelson Heats Up After Nicki Minaj Livestream

The saga between Little Mix, former member Jesy Nelson, and rapper Nicki Minaj continues. The girl group that won The X Factor in 2011 has been shaken by controversy. Nelson was accused of blackfshing in the collaboration “Boyz” featuring Nicki Minaj and Diddy. A recent Instagram Live session with Minaj and Nelson caused further criticism after Minaj called group member Leigh-Anne Pinnock a “clown.”
During the Instagram Live, Minaj addressed alleged leaked DM’s from Pinnock where she spoke about how Nelson blocked all of the members of Little Mix on Instagram. The messages suggested that Pinnock wanted to call out Nelson for blackfishing. Little Mix fans on Twitter believe the screenshots calling Nelson a “horrible person” are fake. Nelson left the group in December 2020. “Boyz” is her first release as a solo artist.
Instagram Live Session Causes Further Rift Between Jesy Nelson, Little Mix
“Sweetheart, take them messages and shove them up your a**,” Minaj said about the DM’s. “Don’t come out to try and ruin anyone, let her enjoy this time. Print them text messages out, buss that a** open and shove it up your motherf*cking a**. If you want a solo career, baby girl go ahead and say that. You don’t have to attack someone else, if that’s how you felt, why were you kiki’ing with her for 10 years? It screams insecurity, it screams that you’re jealous. And now you just look like a big jealous bozo.”
Nelson did not directly address Pinnock during the live stream. She did laugh as Minaj ranted about everything that went down between Nelson and Little Mix. While Nelson was with Little Mix, sources claim Pinnock had a conversation with her about making her skin appear darker. She did address the widespread blackfishing criticism on Instagram.
“My intention was never to offend people of color with this video and my song,” Nelson said on Instagram. “Like I said, growing up as a young girl, this is the music that I listened to, these are the videos that I watched and, like, thought were the best. For me personally, ’90s and 2000s hip hop and R&B music, I will stan to this day, is the best era of music that was made, to this day, I personally think.”
The Aftermath of the Drama
Reports began swirling that Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall, and Pinnock unfollowed Nelson on Instagram. It is unclear if they actually unfollowed Nelson or if she was the one who blocked all of them first. In an interview back in September, Nelson explained that despite leaving Little Mix, they were like her “sisters,” however, she has not spoken to them since she left the group.
Twitter users pointed out that Pinnock unfollowed Minaj on Instagram. The Little Mix Instagram account still follows Nelson and Minaj. Nelson currently only follows her collaborators Minaj and Diddy on Instagram.
Sources close to Nelson say she is “devastated” over the reaction to the live stream and the fallout with Little Mix.
“Jesy has been saddened to hear that so called friends have been encouraging online hate towards her, and whilst she appears in a much better head space after going solo, friends and family are checking in with her daily to make sure she’s okay,” a source said.
In between all of the Instagram drama, Little Mix’s song “I Love You” is now No. 10 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart. The song was released in 2015 on the group’s Get Weird album.
