As the excitement for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the hit musical Wicked continues to build, one of the original stars of the show, Kristin Chenoweth, recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to talk about the advice she gave Ariana Grande. Grande has been cast to play the role of Glinda, which Chenoweth originated on Broadway in 2003.

During the interview, Chenoweth revealed that Grande had expressed nervousness about taking on the iconic role, as she wanted to pay homage to Chenoweth’s portrayal but also make the character her own. Chenoweth went on to express her pride in Grande and her excitement to see her take on the role.
“Make Glinda your Glinda. Sure, you can tip your hat at me if you want, but really I just want you to do you.” Chenoweth said. “I’ve known [Ariana] since she was ten. I’m so proud of her, I can’t wait to see her do it.”
The hype for Jon M. Chu’s two-part film adaptation of Wicked, which also stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, has never been higher. First-look photos of both leading ladies in costume were released on April 16, and pictures and videos of Grande on set recently went viral on social media.
It’s clear that Grande is bringing her own unique style and talent to the role of Glinda, and with the guidance of Chenoweth, she’s sure to make the character her own. Fans can’t wait to see what both Grande and Erivo bring to the table when Wicked hits theaters next year.
Kristin Chenoweth Plays Coy About Movie Cameo
Production on the highly anticipated Wicked movie is currently underway, and fans are eagerly awaiting any news about which original cast members might make cameo appearances. During a recent interview, the interviewer asked Chenoweth if she would make a cameo in the new film.
“I really…I really cannot. I’m waiting and we’ll see,” Chenoweth said.
While she wouldn’t confirm or deny her involvement in the project, a quick Google search of her shows that she is indeed appearing in the film. Chenoweth then proceeded to praise Grande and Erivo’s performances as the new Glinda and Elphaba.
For those who aren’t familiar with the story, Wicked is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that tells the story of two unlikely friends, Elphaba and Glinda, and their struggles with rivalries, corrupt government, and public perception. The show first debuted on Broadway in 2003 and became an instant hit, grossing over $1 billion in total Broadway revenue in 2016.
