Kristin Chenoweth recently shared her thoughts on Ariana Grande’s upcoming role as Glinda in the movie adaptation of Wicked. Chenoweth famously played the character in the musical’s original Broadway cast. She had nothing but praise for Grande.

Kristin Chenoweth Talks Ariana Grande’s Wicked Role

Chenoweth was recently a guest on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, where she shared her thoughts on Grande’s casting as Glinda. She told host Andy Cohen that she has talked to Grande about her role in the upcoming movie adaptations.

“She’s gonna put her own stamp on it,” Chenoweth said. “Because I’m so proud of her. I wanted her to do her Glinda. And that’s what she’s doing. I’m proud of her.”

Chenoweth also responded to the news that there will be two movies instead of just one, explaining that there’s “so much more” to explore about the characters, including information from the books which inspired the musical.

The actress remained tight-lipped when Cohen asked her if the movies have started filming yet. She also said she “hasn’t read anything” for the films.

Chenoweth, Grande First Met at the Broadway Show

Chenoweth and Grande are good friends. In 2021, Grande even welcomed Chenoweth as her Battle Advisor on The Voice. The pair actually first met when Grande was a kid and she got to go backstage at a performance of Wicked on Broadway.

A young Grande sang for Chenoweth when they first met, and Chenoweth said she “blew me away.” At the time, Grande said she wanted to play Glinda, and now her dream has come true. Chenoweth said they “stayed in touch” after that first meeting.

Grande co-stars in the upcoming movies alongside Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. Last year, Grande debuted a new blonde hairstyle presumably for the project. The movies are set to be released on Christmas in 2024 and 2025.
