Kelly Clarkson Wins Custody Battle Amid ‘Difficult Time Co-Parenting’ With Brandon Blackstock

After filing for divorce in June, Kelly Clarkson was just awarded primary physical custody of her two children with Brandon Blackstock. A Los Angeles County judge ruled in The Voice coaches favor after the pair “have a difficult time co-parenting due to issues of trust between them.”

Court documents have painted a picture of the custody battle in the very public divorce. “The Court finds that under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children weighs in favor of Petitioner having primary custody,” the document says.
The document adds that “the level of conflict between the parents has increased. The parties have a difficult time co-parenting due to issues of trust between them.”

The agreement means that Brandon can visit the kid’s River Rose, 6, and Remington Alexander, 4 at Kelly’s home in Los Angeles. She is currently filming both The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Voice there amid the ongoing divorce. The kids are spending Thanksgiving break with Brandon and will also join him again during Christmas time. After that, Kelly will get to spend New Years’ with them. This agreement also states that Brandon will FaceTime the children “at a mutually agreed upon time.” He has two children from a previous relationship.
A Lawsuit Against Kelly Could Be The Reason For All Of The Tension
Kelly and Brandon were married for nearly seven years before calling it quits. Recently, Kelly was hit with a lawsuit from Brandon’s father Narvel Blackstock, owner of Starstruck Management Group for unpaid commissions. He alleges that Kelly owes them $1.4 million in unpaid commissions. These commissions are reportedly from Kelly’s earning as host of The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Voice. Kelly had previously maintained a close relationship with the Blackstock’s. They have managed her for 13 years so this has certainly created a more tense situation.
But even with all of this drama, Kelly has made it clear that he kids are her number one priority. “The thing that’s been kind of hard to navigate is I am an open book, but at some point I’m a mama bear more than I am a person in the public eye,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “So I care 100 percent more about my children than I do anything else on this planet.”

She previously threw a little dig at her marriage on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. In the segment, she talked about some very important advice that her mom gave her that now applies to her personal life.
“My mom has been telling me since I was a kid: You are who you surround yourself with,” Kelly said. “You want to make sure you’re surrounded by people that also want to be the best versions of themselves and also want a good common goal for everyone, not just themselves, right?”
