Joe Jonas didn’t “hesitate” to file divorce papers after news broke that he and Sophie Turner were separated. On Tuesday, Sept. 5, TMZ reported that Jonas has filed legal documents to end his marriage of nearly four years.
Joe Jonas Files Divorce Documents
Joe Jonas has reportedly taken the steps to legally divorce Sophie Turner. According to TMZ, Jonas is asking for joint custody of his children with Turner, and the couple has a strong prenup in order. For those who may not know, the couple has two daughters together, 3-year-old Willa and a 1-year-old, whose name is not currently public knowledge.
According to the initial news regarding their divorce, the couple had been having problems for around six months. Now, it is known that Jonas was previously “shopping for divorce lawyers for at least a week.” Apparently, the singer will be repped by Tiger Woods’ lawyer, Tom Sasser.
At this time, it’s been reported that the nature of their split is due to “lifestyle differences.”
“She likes to party, he likes to stay at home,” said TMZ’s source.
When information regarding Jonas’ divorce originally leaked, so did intel related to the couple’s children. At the time, it was released that Jonas had been caring for both daughters for the past three months “pretty much all of the time,” even while his band is on tour. During this time, Turner was spotted filming a new crime drama in her home country.
Jonas and Turner first connected in 2016 through Instagram DMs. They began dating soon after their first date at a bar in the United Kingdom. In 2017, Jonas popped the question, then the couple wed for the first time in Las Vegas in May 2019. They then wed for a second time in June 2019, with the couple’s closest family and friends in attendance. Jonas and Turner welcomed their first daughter Willa in 2020, and their second daughter in 2022.
They Allegedly Have a Strong Prenuptial Agreement
Following rumors of Jonas and Turner’s split, various news outlets received information about the couple’s prenuptial agreement. According to The Blast, the couple’s prenup is “ironclad” since both parties were wealthy ahead of their marriage.
The prenup is said to withhold Jonas’s royalties from his music as part of The Jonas Brothers, as well as anything created or earned with his band, DNCE. On the flipside, Turner will keep her Game of Thrones money and any residuals from her acting career.
The couple’s property, bought before the marriage, will stay in the owner’s name. Jonas and Turner have homes in both L.A. and the U.K., so the original owner of the home will remain as the owner. The couple used to have a Miami mansion together, but it recently sold for $15 Million in mid-August. It’s believed that they will split this profit.
Due to the individual’s celebrity status, they each get to keep the rights to their image, likeness, and businesses related to their name.
It seems like the only thing to really be determined by the court is the couple’s custody rulings. Due to Turner’s three month stay in England, TMZ shares that there’s a possibility for Jonas to receive full custody.
