How Katy Perry Says Lookalike Zooey Deschanel ‘Showed Up’ For Her

American Idol judge Katy Perry is gushing about her lookalike Zooey Deschanel. The actress recently appeared in Katy’s music video for “Not the End of the World.”
Fans have been saying Katy and Zooey look similar for years, and Katy was even mistaken for Zooey when she was younger. She recently talked about Zooey in an interview, sharing how she helped her out during maternity leave.
Katy Perry Gushes About Zooey Deschanel
Six weeks after giving birth to her daughter Daisy last year, Katy wanted to make a music video for her song “Not the End of the World,” off her latest album Smile. Since she was on maternity leave at the time, she asked Zooey Deschanel to fill in for her.
The video depicts Zooey getting abducted by aliens who think she’s Katy, and proceeding to save the world from destruction. Katy makes a brief cameo at the beginning of the video, but the rest is all Zooey.

“I was so happy being a mother, but I was like ‘Oh, there’s this idea in the back of my head,'” Katy told People. “I knew that time marches on and now was the time so I reached out to her personally, and it was amazing. She showed up for me while I was on maternity leave, basically.”
Katy added that Zooey, who has two kids of her own named Elsie and Charlie, was “totally down” for the project. “I truly believe that mothers are the most powerful beings on the planet, and when women get together and support each other, it’s incredible,” she added.
Katy Used To Pose As Zooey Deschanel
To celebrate the release of the music video, Katy and Zooey chatted in an Instagram Live video last month. During the conversation, Katy admitted that she used her resemblance to Zooey to her advantage when she was starting out.

Katy said that, since she didn’t have the money or fame to get into clubs in Los Angeles, she pretended to be Zooey. “Sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club,” she admitted.
Zooey wasn’t bothered by this. In fact, she said people would tell her they saw her at the club, when they were really seeing Katy! She said she was “relieved” to find out that Katy was so pretty after being compared to her.
