Katy Perry has a new music video for her song “Not the End of the World,” featuring actress Zooey Deschanel. For years now, fans have been saying Katy and Zooey look similar, and it turns out Katy used that to her advantage.
Zooey joined Katy on an Instagram Live on Monday to talk about the experience of making the video. Katy also admitted to something she used to do before she got famous.

Katy Perry Admits To Posing As Zooey Deschanel
Katy called Zooey her “doppelgänger,” and said they’ve been “twinning” for years. When Zooey appeared on her live video, Katy declared, “It’s like looking in a mirror!” Zooey replied, “Except you’re cuter.”
Zooey said she’s had full conversations with people who think she’s Katy. Meanwhile, Katy said that when she first moved to Los Angeles, she had no money or clout to get her into clubs. “Sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club,” she said.

It turns out, Zooey already knew about this, because people would tell her they saw her at the club! However, she said she was “relieved” when she met Katy to find out that the person people compared her to was so pretty.
In Katy’s new music video, Zooey gets mistaken for Katy and abducted by aliens. Katy apparently came up with the brilliant idea to have Zooey fill in for her while she was on maternity leave.

In Katy Perry’s music video for “Not the End of the World,” aliens mistakenly abduct Zooey Deschanel, saving her from Earth’s imminent destruction. Zooey pretends to be Katy in order to save the planet.
At the end of the video, Zooey dons blonde hair and a dress reminiscent of Katy’s wackiest costumes. “I don’t know how you walk in these pop star outfits,” Zooey told Katy during their chat. “Props to you. How did you learn to do that?”

During her Instagram Live, Katy said she came to the set of the video to check on things and decided to make a cameo. She appears pushing a baby carriage at the beginning, but the rest is all Zooey.
Fans on Twitter are loving the new video, noting what a clever concept it is. Some called it a “cultural reset” and a “pop culture moment.” We’re glad that Katy and Zooey seem to be such good friends.
