Nurse who tested positive for Coronavirus, brings the ‘BGT’ judges to tears
Meet Beth Porch, a pediatric nurse from London who recently tested positive for Coronavirus. Singing an original song in an emotional tribute on BGT tonight, Beth brought the judges to tears in a heartfelt love letter to the child patients in her ward.
The song, named ‘You Taught Me What Love Is’, touched on her experiences surrounding her life as a nurse, caring for sick children. Porch made it clear, when introducing herself to the judges, that the song was also dedicated to the special bond she sees between the children and their parents.
Porch regularly plays music for the young patients in the ward, whilst they fight for their lives. When asked about her love for music, she says it’s powers of ‘pain relief’ are most important to her: “As part of my degree I did a bit of research around music therapy for pain relief, but even as a distraction technique it’s good. I think music speaks to everyone’s soul. When kids and families are going through the toughest time it just brings a bit of normality and joy.”
The NHS hero recently contracted the Coronavirus and was forced to take time off from her day to day life in the hospital. She is now back on the frontline, helping those in urgent need of care.
Beth Porch responds to touching messages from ‘BGT’ viewers after her performance
Beth Porch has already reached out on Twitter, thanking ‘BGT’ viewers for their support after her audition. In a tweet, the Coronavirus survivor wrote, “Life doesn’t get much more surreal than watching yourself on TV, in a spare cubicle whilst you’re working a nightshift. My phone is blowing up right now. My song ‘You Taught Me What Love Is’ is available for download…”
