WATCH Immigrant Workers On The Front Lines Of Coronavirus Healing America
Reading Time: 3 minutes
NowThis News put out a powerful PSA featuring workers on the front lines of the deadly coronavirus pandemic reciting a poem. It really shuts down xenophobia, especially in the United States. People from other countries are here to help those who have contracted the virus. Watch the PSA below to see this powerful message.
Immigrant Workers Make Up A Large Part Of The Healthcare Industry
More than 3 million immigrants work in the U.S. health care system. These are the people working long shifts, potentially risking their own health just to save others. They deserve to be praised not just in times like these, but always. And while people in the United States may often say negative things towards immigrants, they really are an integral part of society. The following video was posted on Twitter stating that 1 in 4 healthcare workers are immigrants.
“Something’s come from overseas and taken your jobs, made it unsafe to walk the streets, kept you trapped in your home,” says the people in the PSA. Coronavirus is now the thing that people are afraid of. We can’t leave our homes because of quarantines or lockdowns and the fact that the virus spreads so easily. Xenophobia needs to be eliminated from society not only because it is horrible, but because the heroes on the frontlines are not all from the United States. While we are safe in our homes they have to be out every day taking care of others and being apart from their families.
These Workers Do Not Want To Be Forgotten When The Pandemic Is Over
While we see how valuable healthcare workers are in times like these, their efforts should never go unnoticed. “Don’t forget when it’s no longer quiet,” says one man in the video. And we shouldn’t. The video sheds light on how immigrant workers are only now being looked at as heroes however they always have been and always will be heroes. We cannot forget everything they do for countries like the United States and just around the world in general.
“It only takes the smallest things to change the world,” one person says at the end of the video. This is true because all it takes is for one person to see this video and realize that people from other countries help heal the United States. The PSA ends with a statement thanking immigrant healthcare workers. It says, “To every carer, key worker, volunteer and neighbor from Britain or overseas who put their lives on the line to help beat coronavirus, we say: thank you. And we promise…we will remember.”
Positive Comments Came Flooding In To Praise The Workers
It seems like people actually took away the powerful message from the video. One comment said “this pandemic extends beyond race, religion, creed, gender and nationality. We are in this fight together.”
“So much love for immigrants around the world,” said another comment.
These workers should always be treated with respect no matter what country they come from. Speaking out about this was very important because it is an issue that is being overlooked in the media recently.
We can all take away something from this PSA and maybe some will even realize that they did not value immigrant workers nearly as much as they deserve to be valued. But now a new light has been shed on this issue finally, one that will touch the hearts of many and relate to millions of people out there experiencing the same thing.
Hopefully, these immigrant healthcare workers will not have to feel under-appreciated or undervalued ever again. And even after the pandemic is over they will still continue to be a huge part of the healthcare industry.
