One of the most popular dance shows on television, Dancing With The Stars, sees some of the biggest celebrities flaunt their skills in the ballroom. It seems like it’s all fun and games in front of the cameras. But, former contestants are now revealing that everything is not as it seems.

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Judges Accused Of Being Biased

On a recent episode of  Overserved With Lisa Vanderpump, Lance Bass and Vivica A. Fox joined host Lisa Vanderpump to discuss their experiences competing on Dancing With The Stars. Vivica was on the third season of the show in 2006. Lance competed on Season 7 in 2008. Lisa was on Season 16 in 2013. What they revealed about the show might actually shock you.

“I made it to week four, and I was a sore loser,” Vivica said about competing on Dancing With The Stars. Lisa asked Vivica who her professional partner was while she was on the show. Vivica was partnered with Nick Kosovich who lasted as a pro for two seasons. “And one of the main reasons why we got kicked off,” Vivica continued, “you got to play the game.” She finished off by saying that her “partner made too many requests.”

Lance related to Vivica because he too feels the same way. “Same. We were in the same boat” he said. Lance was partnered with pro dancer Lacey Schwimmer. She was a pro for six seasons of the show and got to work with Lance in her very first season.

“My partner was new,” Lance said. “She was the bad girl of ballroom and the judges just hate her and we felt it.” One night, one of he judges invited Lance over to their house for drinks after he and Lacey made it to the finale. “They had a little too much to drink and one of those judges is like ‘you know we can’t stand your partner'” Lance said. “I’m like, well, why am I working my ass off this weekend?”

Are The Judges Really Biased?

Most talent shows like Dancing With The Stars rely on fan votes to decide whether or not a contestant stays in the competition or goes home. However, what’s unique about this show is that the judges score the dancers on a scale from 1-10. This score is factored into the viewer’s votes and can have an effect on whether or not they stay in the competition.

Both Vivica and Lance had relatively high scores when they competed on the show. Judge Len Goodman did give Lance and Lacey a score of 6 for three dances in a row but did increase their scores the following weeks. Lisa had lower scores in the competition but did not make any claims against the judges.

After Bobby Bones shockingly won season 27, Dancing With The Stars implemented a new voting system. Now, the judges have the power to decide which of the bottom two couples goes home. In most instances, the judges choose to send home the couple that received lower scores. One exception to this is when they were accused of showing favoritism to contestant Ally Brooke.
