America’s Got Talent is officially back! Now that AGT is back for its 20th season on NBC, there’s been a huge twist to the show itself. Instead of 4 or 5 Golden Buzzers, this season will feature 9. Singer Jourdan Blue is among the recipients of the season.
Who is Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer Recipient Jourdan Blue?
It’s no secret that America’s Got Talent fans love a new singer. Howie Mandel is apart of that clientele that loves an upcoming singer, since he gave one of his Golden Buzzers to Jourdan Blue. Here’s everything you need to know about him.
Jourdan is a crooner who lives and performs in New Orleans. He’s gone viral on TikTok, bringing in over six million views on a video of him crooning. Earlier this year, Jourdan appeared as part of TikTok’s LiveFest performances. At the time of writing, he has 369K Followers on TikTok, 46K followers on Instagram, and 3K subscribers on YouTube.
It appears this singer is a bit more private when it comes to his social life on social media. His YouTube about section reads: “I am a singer/songwriter trying to make a positive impact on this crazy world we live in.”
Jourdan Previously Auditioned for American Idol
In 2022, Jourdan appeared on YouTube show, American Idol Unaired. On the show, Jourdan talked about his American Idol Season 20 audition. At the time of his audition, Jourdan was only 22 years old and had no vocal training.
“I’ve been singing for a while, since I was a little kid, but I didn’t start taking it seriously until about maybe a year or two ago,” he said on the YouTube show. “I had a really rough patch in my life…music has helped me get through it.”
“I’ve been singing at church and it’s crazy getting up on stage and having nerves so much I’m walking back and forth pacing back and forth taking deep breaths ‘oh my gosh please don’t let me mess up god please let this go well,'” he said “Then I got up on the stage of American Idol and I just felt like I was at home. There were almost little to no nerves.”
The singer admitted that it was “so weird” he wasn’t insanely nervous for the audition because it was his biggest opportunity to date. Jourdan had gotten an audition on American Idol because his friend had previously been on the show and had contacts with casting.
In preparation, he watched all of Season 19 that he could find on YouTube, then began preparing his song for the audition. He didn’t go through the typical process because of his friend, so his audition was about two days after meeting the casting director.
His song choices for the audition were “Take Me to Church” by Hozier, “Too Close” by Alex Clare, and Calum Scott’s rendition of “Dancing on My Own.” He sang all of the songs for the casting director, who ultimately chose “Dancing on My Own.” Jourdan’s backup song for the audition was an original titled “Goodbyes Are Hard.”
