New Talent Competition Show Clash of the Cover Bands Heads to E!
Each episode of Clash of the Cover Bands will pit two cover bands from the same genre against each other. Each episode will focus on a different genre from boybands, pop stars, heavy metal, and more throughout the season.
Two rounds of performances will take place per episode. This gives two opportunities for each band to entertain the judges and win over the crowd. The bands will obviously perform covers of popular songs. It has yet to be confirmed if the judges or the audience will pick the winner of each battle. It might be done in the style of The Masked Singer where the audience and the judges get to decide together.
The show is produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio and Electric Hot Dog, Jimmy Fallon and Jim Juvonen’s company. Fallon has been known for playing covers on his shows, including The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” with Kevin Bacon. This cover totally could have been the inspiration behind Clash of the Cover Bands.
The bands are all vying for a cash prize of $10,000. So far, it is not yet clear about whether or not the winning band in each episode will win the prize money or if it will be only for the ultimate winner at the end of the season. The best prize of all is that one lucky band will be chosen to perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This band will be chosen at the end of the season by the fans.
Who Are the Judges?
With Fallon as the executive producer, he had to pull in some very famous celebrity judges to lead the show. Each episode will star a judging panel full of familiar faces. Adam Lambert will serve as a judge on the show. He rose to fame after competing on the eighth season of American Idol in 2009. He has since become one of the world’s biggest rockstars as the lead singer of the Queen revival. Since Clash of the Cover Bands will also highlight tribute acts, Lambert is the perfect person to judge the show.
Meghan Trainor has also signed on as a judge on the show. Trainor coached the ninth season of The Voice UK in 2020. She served as a guest mentor on the US version of The Voice and judged both seasons of The Four: Battle for Stardom. She definitely knows how to discover superstars. After welcoming a baby boy in February, Meghan is ready to make her talent show return.
Producer and songwriter Ester Dean rounds out the judging panel on Clash of the Cover Bands. She is responsible for some of the greatest hits from artists like Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry. Dean continuously produced hits on NBC’s Songland which has yet to announce a new season. She showed off her trailer on set in an Instagram video and was excited to get to work.
Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss is Set to Host
Stephen “tWitch” Boss currently serves as the DJ and co-executive producer of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He will step into the host role for Clash of the Cover Bands. He got his start in show business competing on So You Think You Can Dance in 2008. Boss was brought back as an All-Star on the show throughout multiple seasons.
Boss often hosts episodes of The Ellen DeGeneres Show and is a natural in front of the cameras. He can dance and definitely has the bright personality necessary to lead a show. Boss and his wife, former Dancing with the Stars pro Allison Holker, own social media with their fun dance videos. Bringing this energy to Clash of the Cover Bands could throw his hat into the debate about who is the best host on television.
The Show is Casting a Live Studio Audience
Clash of the Cover Bands began filming with a live studio audience on July 29. In an online casting call, the show is seeking a standing room only audience pit which will most likely surround the stage. All episodes will consist of a fully vaccinated audience ages 18-35.
Tickets were made available for show dates until August 6. You are still able to sign up for tickets for the last few tapings of the show this week. The studio where Clash of the Cover Bands is being filmed is located at the Television City Studios-Genesee gate.
Dean and Lambert have already posted some behind-the-scenes content on Instagram. In one video they both sit in hair and makeup as they gear up for the show. Lambert sported a stunning Gucci jacket during this taping. The premiere of Clash of the Cover Bands is set to air later in 2021. No official premiere date has been announced. Judging based on all of the talent shows returning to television in the fall, this new show will probably follow that same pattern.
The Clash of the Cover Bands was on in Europe (Benelux zone) for over ten years. Similar name and format. So, not a new idea or name that needed to be inspired. Easily found web site and Wikipedia entry.
