Last week, Erbert took to Instagram stories to share a photo of herself with a cut on her head. She later responded to fans’ concern by sharing, “I was in an accident but I am okay!” She added that she would “explain more in detail soon.”
Erbert and Hough later posted an Instagram video detailing their December 12 car accident and the aftermath. Erbert wrote that the “accident involved a steep hill, icy roads, a tree, and worst of all, the fear that we would slide off the mountain.”
The dancer shared how grateful they were that “we are both okay and that I only walked away a little banged up, a swollen face, and four stitches above my eyebrow.” She added that the accident made them “realize how fragile life is and how important it is to love those around you.”
The Couple Shared Video Detailing the Accident
The couple’s Instagram post featured a video showing various moments from the accident’s aftermath, including a shot of the damaged car and footage of Erbert getting stitches in her head. After visiting the emergency room, the couple relaxed with pizza and snacks.
Erbert shared that she had a hard time chewing candy because her head hurt. In the comments of the post, Hough wrote that “Hayley doesn’t remember anything” from the accident. He added, “She was dazed afterwards, being cheerful saying we should keep going to dinner as blood ran down her face. That really scared me. She came to 20 minutes later when the firemen arrived.”
The couple seems to be recovering well, as they recently made an appearance during AGT and DWTS alum Lindsey Stirling’s Christmas tour. Stirling shared a video of the two of them dancing in the aisles at the show.
