‘The Comeback Stage’ Recap: Kanard Thomas Versus J.T. Rodriguez

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Last week, The Comeback Stage returned with new fifth coach, Bebe Rexha. The digital companion series to The Voice gives contestants a second chance to join the live shows.
This week, we have Kanard Thomas going head-to-head against J.T. Rodriguez. Watch their battle and this week’s episode of The Comeback Stage, then we’ll recap it all.
Kanard Thomas
We have to start with the story Kanard shares about his Blind Audition. He was “heartbroken” with he didn’t turn a chair. But as fate would have it, Kanard is a “BIG fan of Bebe Rexha” so he was “excited” to join The Comeback Stage. LOL. Okay, Kanard. You tell yourself that.
He decided to sing “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye. Honestly, it was a better choice than his original Blind Audition. I still don’t think he’s the best singer but compared to what we heard on The Comeback Stage last week, this is an improvement. Bebe compliments his range and falsetto, saying this “feels like you.” His Battle performance showed off the best parts of his voice too. Kanard is one to watch on this series for sure!
J.T. Rodriguez
J.T. retells his story, being a trainer at OrangeTheory (though they never mention it by name, there’s orange everywhere so it’s obvious). He also talks about how nerves got the best of him in his Blind Audition because he lacks performance experience.
On The Comeback Stage, he is singing “Stormy Monday” by T-Bone Walker. He definitely has an interesting, blues-y tone. Kanard notes “I was not expecting J.T.’s voice to be as amazing as it is.” The subtle shade! I love it. Bebe again brings up his nerves, telling him to dig deep. J.T. has a recognizable, interesting soul to his voice. At the end of the day, it’s a little bit comparing apples to oranges in this Battle.
And The Winner Is…
After their Battle performances, Bebe chose the winner…Kanard Thomas! He will be competing against an eliminated contestant in the Battle Rounds.
Another episode of The Comeback Stage will be on YouTube next Tuesday. Join us then for the next recap, where we’ll see the third Battle of two artists who failed to turn a chair in the Blind Auditions!
