The Voice‘s digital companion series, The Comeback Stage, has returned for another season! That means a handful of artists who don’t make it through each round on the show will have a second chance to join the Live Shows.

But let’s take a look at what changes are being made to this season of The Comeback Stage, including the introduction of a new fifth coach!

NBC

Who is the New Fifth Coach?

The new coach on The Comeback Stage this season is none other than Bebe Rexha! Bebe is a singer-songwriter and record producer. She has earned songwriting credits to songs by Eminem and Rihanna, Shinee, Selena Gomez, and Nick Jonas, among other artists. But she also records her own songs, such as “I’m a Mess,” and collaborations including “Me, Myself & I” with G-Easy, “In the Name of Love” with Martin Garrix, and “Meant to Be” with Florida Georgia Line. Her success recently led to her being nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys this year! She has also won a Teen Choice Award. The 29 year old pop singer is an up-and-coming star.

How Will The Comeback Stage Work This Season?

Similar to last season, contestants who did not turn a chair will have a chance to battle for their spot to get back into the competition. They will be coached by the fifth coach, Bebe Rexha. However, this season, artists who are eliminated in later rounds will have a chance to come back too! So the winners from the Blind Auditions round will have to compete with eliminated artists from the Battles. That means the artist who eventually wins The Comeback Stage could be a singer or act who was formerly on a team already. The final two acts will have a chance to compete for America’s vote and one winner will join the Top 13 for the Live Shows.

What Happened in Episode One?

Episode One brought together two acts from the first two nights of Blind Auditions and put them head-to-head. These acts were Nathan & Chesi and Klea Olson.

Nathan & Chesi kicked off the episode, singing “Tulsa Time” by Don Williams. They obviously have good chemistry, being a married couple, and their harmonies are decent. I don’t see them winning the whole competition, but they’re definitely talented. Bebe encourages them to be more confident in what they do.

Next up was Klea. She sang “Brand New Key” by Melanie, bringing some serious Darby Walker vibes. It shows her quirky side but doesn’t do her any favors in showcasing her voice. Bebe suggests having moments of being loud but also pulling back to make those moments more impressive. And she improved on that front for sure in her Battle performance!

In the end, Bebe went with Nathan & Chesi to move on to the next round. Honestly, that decision made sense to me. They were the more memorable from the Blind Auditions this week and I thought their Battle performance on The Comeback Stage was stronger. I especially like Chesi’s voice!
