Chrissy Teigen won’t ever forget one scary moment during one of her first dates with John Legend. The cookbook author recently recalled past anxiety when she thought her credit card would be declined when they ate dinner in New York.
Chrissy Teigen Thought Her Credit Card Would Decline During Date with John Legend
While promoting new show Chrissy & Dave Eat Out at The Sundance Film Festival, Teigen shared one core memory during her early days with her husband. There was a time when the model invited Legend to come with her for a deluxe dinner date.
“I took John to Jean-Georges [restaurant] when I was 20 years old. And I remember the margarita that he ordered was $58,” she said. “I was just blown away when it came out. It came out on a little dish and had little salts and everything.”
According to Teigen, this was the first time she asked Legend out on a date. While the restaurant was her own choice, but it came to a point where she felt scared that she’d run out of money to pay for their meal.
“My heart broke because I knew then that my card would probably decline,” she said. “I ended up going to the bank and getting cash because I was so, so scared that it would decline. So I ended up getting out like $800 cash. Our meal there was beautiful and wonderful, but the fear that went into having it. Oh my god, I’ll never forget that feeling in my entire life. It was terrifying.”
Growing up “really poor,” Teigen said she wasn’t really aware of Michelin-starred dining places. The model only had “humble meals at home” as a kid — the reason why she doesn’t have a “super developed palate.”
Eventually though, Teigen’s background in food has expanded. She’s now released several cookbooks, cookie mixes, bakeware, and many others.
She Opens Up About Struggling to Find Work-Life Balance
During the event, Teigen also shared about her struggles as a working mom. As per the model, she needs to be healthy to witness every milestone of her kid. Teigen share four kids — Luna, Miles, Esti, and Wren — with Legend.
“I want to take care of myself so that I can wake up and not have regrets of missing out on something they did,” she said. “The physical time is something, but mentally it’s a lot.”
Breaking down the actual situation, Teigen said she has a “little girl that’s about to walk,” Esti, and “a boy that’s just a mush that does nothing,” Wren. Apart from that she needs to keep up with “another boy that’s so into sports,” Miles, and “a girl that is just absolute perfection in a girl form,” Luna.
“To divide your time and your brain space for them is really difficult,” she said.
