Dancing with the Stars Season 31 winner Charli D’Amelio recently stopped by The Tonight Show to chat with host Jimmy Fallon about the experience of making her Broadway debut in the ensemble cast of the jukebox musical & Juliet.
Charli D’Amelio Talks About Broadway Experience
Fallon mentioned that he ran into D’Amelio in November at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, where they were both featured. The 20-year-old TikTok star shared that after the parade, she “slept the entire day” to prepare for performing in & Juliet the next day.
“It is one of the most amazing and one of the hardest things that I’ve ever done,” D’Amelio said of performing on Broadway. “You push your body, and you do things that you think you can’t do, but you’re surrounded by so much love.”
D’Amelio added that she and her fellow performers make sure to give it their all during every show, “because you don’t know if it’s someone’s first Broadway show, or the only Broadway show they’re ever gonna go to.”
D’Amelio also told Fallon about what it was like to find out she had been cast in a Broadway show. She explained that she got a FaceTime call from her agents, but her camera was off. They told her to turn her camera on, which confused her.
“So I did, and they said, ‘You booked & Juliet.’ And I immediately burst into tears,” D’Amelio recalled. “I was just so proud and nervous, but so excited. This is the dream. Everyone who loves their creative outlet — whether it’s singing, dancing, acting — this is what you work for.”
D’Amelio added that it’s “such an honor” to be part of the ensemble, telling Fallon, “I’m having the time of my life.” The host shared that & Juliet is running through April 6 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York City.
