Carrie Underwood Teams Up with Dan + Shay for ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Ballad

Carrie Underwood has blown fans away with her latest collaboration with Dan + Shay. The American Idol winner is featured on the Dear Evan Hansen movie soundtrack with the Grammy-winning country duo. Their rendition of “Only Us” from the original Broadway play the movie is based on is completely dreamy.

An accompanying “Only Us” music video was released incorporating scenes from the movie. The song starts out with Underwood softly singing and nailing every note. This Broadway tune is a whole new world for the country queen but she has proved that she can perform any genre of music. Her higher register is insane and we rarely get to hear it in songs. The notes she hits after the first minute of the song are ethereal.
Dan + Shay join in and you will probably find yourself on the edge of your seat waiting for them to harmonize with Underwood. When the moment finally comes, it is well worth the wait. Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney described themselves as “superfans” of Underwood on Twitter. It has “always been a dream to collaborate with her.”
Underwood and Dan + Shay’s duet is adapted from a song from the second act of the popular musical. This reimagined version is just as powerful and otherworldly as the original version. Artists who can step outside of the box like this deserve all of the praise.
Fans Love Underwood’s Ability to Tackle Any Genre

Even before its release, Twitter was full of countdowns and excited fans patiently waiting to hear the collaboration. Underwood’s fans agreed that this song cover is “magical.” When Underwood announced the song release on Instagram, one fan pointed out that “Only Us” sounds like it should be on a Disney soundtrack.
“This is a dream come true. Carrie Underwood singing DEH is just transcendental! This makes me miss the days before covid happened,” another fan wrote on YouTube.
The Dear Evan Hansen film is due out in theaters on Sept. 24. The Tony Award-winning Broadway production has become a cult phenomenon with Ben Platt originating the title role. The movie soundtrack also features songs by Tori Kelly, Finneas, SZA, and Sam Smith. Dear Evan Hansen will be returning to Broadway on Dec. 11 with Dancing with the Stars winner Jordan Fisher playing the lead role.
