Carrie Underwood was trending on Twitter after she liked a video that suggested she is against wearing masks. Her fans are upset, disappointed, and concerned after seeing this video under the country star’s likes.
This Twitter video was posted by Matt Walsh. His bio describes him as a “theocratic fascist, philanthropist, beekeeping influencer, fashion icon,” but within the video he just describes himself as a community member of Nashville and a father of four.
This video is of his speech to the Nashville School Board. In his speech he speaks very strong on the topic of children wearing masks in school.
Within his argument he included that the common flu is more dangerous to children than COVID, which is untrue. Then, he went on to discuss how he considers the school mask mandate to be child abuse. This video still shows up on Underwood’s Twitter likes.
Carrie Underwood Fans Are Coping Withthe News
Fans were quick to speak out on their disbelief that Underwood could be anti-mask. Some fans even connected the anti-masking video with the belief that Underwood might also be anti-vaccine. Underwood has not liked any tweets to confirm that she is against the vaccine, so at this time this is purely fan assumptions. Walsh does not talk about the vaccine within his speech.
“It’s not just that Carrie Underwood liked an anti-mask tweet. It’s that Carrie Underwood liked an anti-mask tweet from Matt Walsh, one of the most negligently histrionic voices on the topic of protecting kids from COVID,” explained Jeremy Hooper.
He later added clarification into his Twitter thread. He clarified that he doesn’t want to “cancel” Underwood:
He points out that it’s not the fact that Underwood may be conservative. It’s the fact that she liked a video by an extremist. A video that goes against her previous public statements. Essentially, fans are now left wondering, did the tweet confirm her true opinions while she’s been selling a liberal personality to gain fans?
