Carrie Underwood Set to Mentor Top 5 Singers
American Idol fans were taken aback when Ryan Seacrest announced a “once in a lifetime mentor session” with Carrie Underwood on Sunday night. The Grammy Award winning artist is set to mentor Fritz Hager, HunterGirl, Leah Marlene, Nicolina, and Noah Thompson ahead of next Sunday’s episode.
Since winning the series in 2005, Underwood has gone on to become one of the biggest names in her genre with multiple No. 1 hits. According to the social media announcement, she will be mentoring the singers live from her Las Vegas residency. Underwood reshared the announcement on her Twitter, expressing her excitement for the upcoming episode.
This country icon isn’t the first American Idol alum to act as a mentor this season of the series. Ahead of the Top 5, mentors have included Gabby Barrett, Jimmie Allen, Jordin Sparks, Lauren Alaina, and more.
Returning to the stage alongside Underwood is last season’s guest mentor Finneas. He will appear as a performer on the episode.
Will This Mentor Be a Game Changer for Country Singers?
Fans are eager to see how Underwood’s mentoring will affect the competition, her mentoring could be a gamechanger for the season. Two of five singers, HunterGirl and Noah, remaining have succeeded in the season within the country genre. Mentoring with this huge name in country could make them shine even brighter on the stage.
While this season is still truly any singer’s game, Fritz recently pulled ahead as a frontrunner. This folk artist recently celebrated his self-titled EP’s success on both the iTunes pop and overall charts.
Earlier in the competition, HunterGirl saw her EP “One Day” climb the charts in a similar fashion. Even though her release never hit No. 1, it remains on the country charts to this day. Time will only tell who will be crowned as the next American Idol on May 22.
