Lindsay Ell Shares Eating Disorder Diagnosis with Fans
Ell wrote in an Instagram post that she received the diagnosis a few weeks ago. She spoke about it on a recent podcast appearance and wanted to keep fans updated on social media.
“I always told myself that an eating disorder would look like ‘that kind of body’ and that there’s no way I could have one because I didn’t look like that,” Ell wrote of her denial. “I told myself that the way I was living was fine because it was just part of my career…”
Ell went on to say that she eventually felt like the disorder “was taking over my life, and I no longer had control over what I ate or didn’t eat in the shadows.” Although she pretended to be okay in public, “at home I was shriveling up.”
The singer wrote that she “would love to share my journey as I go through recovery.” She told fans, “I hope in sharing this and my journey as I go along it, will inspire you to be honest with yourself – with what you’re feeling and what you’re going through. “

Ell Opened Up in a Recent Podcast
Ell was recently a guest on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s podcast Off the Vine, where she opened up about her eating disorder diagnosis. The singer told Bristowe that she sought help after hitting “a whole new kind of rock bottom.”
“I was finally like I can’t fight this alone, I can’t do this by myself,” Ell said, according to Yahoo. “Food became this thing that was like a drug, which I was abusing it and not eating and eating and it was just like this relationship that was no longer a healthy thing.”
Ell said recognizing her problem has already helped her, sharing, “I’ve been letting this thing have so much power and take so much energy from my life.”
Season 2 of Canada’s Got Talent, hosted by Ell, premieres March 21 on Citytv.
