Singer Earns Golden Buzzer in Canada’s Got Talent Premiere
During Tuesday’s premiere, singer Carsim Birmingham shared that he’s originally from Dominica in the Caribbean, but he lives in Vancouver now. He brought his brother, nephew, partner, and friend to the show, explaining that he hadn’t seen his brother for four years.
He got emotional as he shared that his audition would be “an opportunity for him to see me doing what I love the most.” He explained that his biggest obstacles to pursuing his dream “surround my identity and also my sexuality.” Carsim said these issues “crippled” him, but “moving to Canada was a big step.”
Carsim went on to perform “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith, showing off a beautiful voice and an impressive range. Toward the end of the song, he started getting emotional. The judges gave Carsim a standing ovation.
New judge Shania Twain said Carsim’s performance represents “what this stage is for.” Kardinal Offishall was so impressed that he hit the Golden Buzzer, calling Carsim “a talent that I’ve never seen before.” Carsim is automatically going to the next round, and he’ll also receive $25,000 from CIBC.

AGT Alum Wes-P Shocks the Judges
Tuesday’s season premiere also featured a performance from Japanese act Wes-P, who previously appeared on America’s Got Talent Season 13 and later AGT: Fantasy League. His unusual act shocked the judges.
The performance started with him creating a shelf on his chest using suction cups, and then removing a cloth from under a cup of liquid without spilling it. After that, he took off his shorts and draped a cloth over his body, doing the same trick so that nothing but a teacup and saucer covered his privates.
Shania Twain said the performance was “so full of suspense.” Wes-P earned three “yes” votes to move on in the competition. The only judge to vote “no” on the act was newcomer Katherine Ryan.
