Jukebox musical Once Upon a One More Time is about to drop the curtain on Broadway. Opening on June 22 at the Marquis Theatre in New York City, the Britney Spears-driven musical will take its final bow on September 3.
Britney Spears-Inspired Broadway Musical is Closing
In an Instagram post on Monday, the show announced the date of its closing. Alongside a preview of the musical, the fairytale-inspired play invited everyone to “come party with us one more time.”
“We could not be prouder of this beautifully joyous and exhilarating show — which is not only a love letter to Britney’s iconic artistry and singular effervescence, but also a brilliant display of the boundless talent of our cast and creative team,” producers James L. Nederlander and Hunter Arnold said in a statement.
Once Upon a One More Time is a musical powered by Spears’ smash hits. These songs include “Oops I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Circus,” and “Toxic.” The musical features an original story written by Jon Hartmere, directed and choreographed by Keone and Mari Madrid with David Leveaux as creative consultant.
Its cast includes Briga Heelan as Cinderella, American Idol‘s Justin Guarini as Prince Charming, Aisha Jackson as Snow White, Jennifer Simard as Stepmother, Adam Godley as the Narrator, and Brooke Dillman as the O.F.G. (Original Fairy Godmother).
“As plans take shape for the show’s future life around the globe, we’re excited to share more news soon!” Nederlander and Arnold said.
While the musical has announced its close on Broadway, it’s not absolutely over for the show. Nederlander and Arnol revealed that there are plans taking shape for Once Upon a One More Time’s future abroad. Particularly, the show will be having a national tour as well as international productions.

The Show Failed to Attract At Least 50% Seating Capacity
Reviews regarding Once Upon a One More Time were divided, the musical has apparently failed to lure as much audiences as expected. Unfortunately, the show wasn’t able to attract Spears’ entirely huge fan base.
According to available box office figures, attendance at the Marquis was at less than 50% capacity. During the week ending August 13, the production obtained $512,008 in box office receipts. Mathematically, such was an insufficient sum for a venue as large as the Marquis.
Spears gave a green light to the musical production, but the pop star did directly participate in it. Nonetheless, she once expressed that she was thrilled to know that a musical was featuring her songs.
“I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs — especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore. This is a dream come true for me!” she said in a statement.
Furthermore, on her social media, the singer expressed her appreciation for the people behind the spotlight.
“Good luck to the hardworking cast and crew of ‘Once Upon a One More Time’ on opening night tonight!!!” Spears wrote on Instgram. “I’ve seen the show and it is so funny, smart and brilliant!!!”
