Blake Shelton is spilling all of the details about his July wedding to Gwen Stefani. He joined Seth Meyers to chat about the song he wrote for his wedding vows. In true Shelton fashion, he was full of jokes about the big day, even implying that their relationship is a “publicity stunt.”
Blake Shelton Has Some Serious Jokes About His Wedding Day
“Gwen and I, we agree that if we’re going to pull off the ultimate publicity stunt, which is what this relationship is, then we wanted to follow through man, and go ahead and get married,” Shelton said. “Because you know the next season of The Voice was coming up and you know we’re team players for NBC.”
Shelton is currently battling it out with new coach Ariana Grande on Season 21 of The Voice. Meyers held up a photo of the couple dancing at their wedding. Shelton also laughed about how Stefani’s arm was perfectly placed to hide his “pelican chin” in the photo. All jokes aside, Shelton and Stefani looked so happy in their wedding photos. The ceremony was officiated by The Voice host Carson Daly. It was a no-brainer for them to ask Daly to officiate the wedding.
“The way he handled those wet t-shirt contests back in the day when he was hosting those spring break specials, we knew he had to be the guy for us,” Shelton said.
Shelton is ‘Excited’ to Release His Original Wedding Song
It was Daly’s idea for Shelton and Stefani to write their own vows at the wedding. Shelton penned a song for Stefani that he performed at the ceremony. The idea stemmed from Stefani’s push for him to write more songs. The Voice coach rehearsed it “so many times” in the bathroom or whenever they weren’t together. He joked that his only concern was “breaking the barstool” they had him sit on while he sang.
“Gwen has always…She is constantly on my ass about, I should be writing more songs,” he shared. “‘How come you don’t write more songs?’ And I have gotten lazy about it over the years. And so I decided, ‘Well, you know, I’ll step up and come up with something,’ and so I did.”
Luckily for fans, The Voice coach will be releasing the song on the deluxe version of his recent album, Body Language. The song and the album will be out on Dec. 3.
“A lot of people ask me about it since they found out that I did that,” he said. “We’re excited about it. I want people to hear it—I mean, my god, I married Gwen Stefani. I want everybody to hear that, I mean, that’s the ultimate bragging rights.”
