David Walliams On Simon Cowell Returning To ‘BGT’
Simon Cowell missed this year’s Britain’s Got Talent live shows due to travel restrictions in the UK.
“Apparently he’s coming back to the show and we’re meant to be doing the show next year,” Walliams told Ross on the late night show.
With a successful vaccine rollout across the UK, auditions in 2021 could see full theater crowds and a more normal format to the show. A statement from producers after the show’s cancelation this year explained that “Safety has to come first and, as a result, the recording of the show can’t currently go ahead as planned.”
BGT‘s Christmas Special in December was also delayed due to several crew members testing positive for Covid-19.
Walliams Blasts Cowell Over Being Late to ‘BGT’ Auditions
Walliams also used his time on the show to take a hit at Cowell’s punctuality on Britain’s Got Talent.
“The audience have been there since midday, and he arrives at five o’clock in the afternoon,” he said. Walliams went on to detail the ‘bulletins’ that the judges recieve before Cowell’s eventual arrival.
“And then he just wants to chat and have meetings with people and smoke a cigarette,” Walliams added.
Britain’s Got Talent holds auditions in both London and Manchester. The show previously toured the UK’s most popular cities to tape auditions.
“And then, about six-thirty, we get in front of the audience and he takes the microphone, and he goes, ‘Oh yeah, sorry we starting late today, but David was eating a three-course meal,” he said. “So the recording of Britain’s Got Talent starts with 3,000 people of Manchester booing me because they don’t realize he’s being ironic.”
