Ariana Grande’s Hollywood career hit a new height after her role in the Netflix disaster-comedy, Don’t Look Up. The singer plays fictional pop star, Riley Biana. “Just Look Up,” the duet she performs with Kid Cudi in the movie, is the front runner for Best Original Song at the 2022 Oscar Awards.

Don’t Look Up premiered on Netflix this past holiday season. The film also starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, and Timothée Chalamet just to name a few. Grande stood out among a room full of stars, stealing each scene that she was in. The film’s 152 million hours of viewership broke the record for most weekly viewership for a Netflix film.

Director, Adam Mckay, set out to have the greatest anthem to ever be written that could save mankind. The song needed to be funny and sound like a pop ballad. Grande’s role in Don’t Look Up as a pop star was meant to reflect the world’s obsession with celebrity life.

Grande’s connection to the film came when one of the film’s composers, Taura Stinson, began to get Déjà vu during the early stages of creating the song. She was a background singer on Grande’s hit songs, “Bang Bang,” as well as “Side to Side.” Grande heard the instrumental and put a melody to it within minutes. Her first take ended up being the take that was used for the film.

Ariana Grande’s Hollywood Takeover

The Voice mentor said she felt like a “walking piece of art that you would see at the MoMa,” while filming her final scene in Don’t Look Up. The grand finale showed her in a Valentino haute couture feather gown. The dress was 3 times the size of Grande’s five foot frame.

Grande was just winding down from her first time coaching on Season 21 of The Voice when Don’t Look Up first premiered. Although neither NBC nor Grande made an announcement of an imminent return to the show for Season 22, Grande still is as busy as ever.

The Grammy award winning singer is taking on the iconic role as Glinda, in the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked. Grande also has her sight set on the beauty industry. This past November she launched her r.e.m Beauty collection.

The star is preparing to cement herself as one of the greats, and not allowing any distractions. Grande recently deleted her twitter account.
