Country star Riley Green is joining The Voice as a new coach for Season 30, airing later this year. Green recently shared how he got the job, explaining that NBC sought him out for it rather than him applying.
Riley Green Shares How He Got The Voice Job
Riley Green is joining The Voice for Season 30 alongside Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and fellow new coach Queen Latifah. During a recent appearance on Country Countdown USA, Green explained that he didn’t seek out the job. Rather, NBC approached him about joining the show.
“There were mentions that there was interest that I might be a possible candidate,” Green recalled. “We were in LA and I did a show at the Grammy Museum, and we did a Q&A before the show. We had a good rapport, and that got me the job. The personality that Blake [Shelton] had is what they’re looking for. I also did a spot on Jimmy Fallon, where I got to visit with him and teach him a duck call. Those two things got me the job.”
Filming for the new season just started, but at the time of his interview, Green was still preparing for the job. He said he hadn’t met his fellow coaches yet, admitting, “I’m not sure about any of it, it’s such a different thing.”
Green added that he had watched former The Voice coach Blake Shelton and American Idol judge Luke Bryan to help him prepare for his new role, saying, “I’m excited about the coaching part of it.”
